Vita Coco Coconut Oil – multipurpose saviour

Standard

028207_A

I am a huge fan of coconut oil as it is a true multi purpose product and is also an all natural product. I don’t always buy this brand but if I am shopping in Holland & Barratt then this is the brand they carry and it is a high quality, organic, extra virgin coconut oil so I am always happy to buy it.

I also love their coconut water to drink so some shopping trips are just to buy a supply of both these to keep me going.

#*~~#*~~#*~~HOW MUCH FOR HOW MUCH ? ~~#*~~#*~~#

I buy mine from Holland & Barratt in the shop but you can also buy from them on line. I’ ve seen it in some grocery stores too. H&B sell four sizes: 50 ml which costs £2.99, 250 ml which at present is half price at £3.49 but is usually £6.99 s if you want to try it get it now. The next size up is 500 ml which is £11.99 and finally the big size which is 750ml and costs £15.99.

It depends of how much you use as to which is best value. I use a lot so tend to go for the big size. You will see why when I explain what I use it for.

~~#*~~#*~~WHAT DOES VITA COCO OIL LOOK LIKE ? ~~#*~~#*~~

This is called coconut oil but at room temperature is solid. It isn’t hard solid but is certainly not an oil. It does however have a very low melting point and just skin temperate will melt this within seconds.

As a solid this is a whitish looking cloudy product but as it melts it turns clear and colourless.

When you open the jar the smell of fresh coconut really hits you and instantly I am taken to the tropics, I was brought up in the West Indies so the smell of coconut is something that has great memories for me.

This brand is cold pressed and organic so the best quality natural sort of coconut oil you can buy.

~~#*~~#*~~IN THE KITCHEN ? ~~#*~~#*~~

The tag line for this coconut oil is “ Eat it… Wear it …. Swear by it!”

I use mine for frying as it really does help the food not stick to the pan. I cook a lot of Asian food and coconut oil helps the flavour in these dishes too.

Coconut oil was proclaimed as being the healthy alternative to other fats but now they are saying it is worse than butter for saturated fats Coconut oil has 90% saturated fats while butter has only around 64%. However half of virgin coconut oil’s saturated fat is lauric acid. This is a medium-chain triglyceride which they say has a number of health-promoting properties, including helping to improve levels of “good” HDL cholesterol.

A Harvard researcher states “ “ I don’t think coconut oil is as healthful as vegetable oils like olive oil and soybean oil, which are mainly unsaturated fat and therefore both lower LDL and increase HDL.”

So everything in moderation as sensible people would say and I use a combination of different oils including the coconut when I want the benefit of the flavour as well as the way it cooks.

Some claim is helps weight loss while others dispute this. Personally I wouldn’t use it in huge quantities until there is a bit more research as heart health is just as important and I can lose weight by eating less and doing more activity.

IMG_4133

~~#*~~#*~~AROUND THE HOUSE ? ~~#*~~#*~~

If I have a squeaking door a little coconut oil will ease that

I use it to apply to my leather sofas as the sun is quite drying on the backs of these and I find coconut oil soaks in well and doesn’t leave a greasy feel once it has soaked in and really feeds the dry leather. It also makes them smell good too.

Anywhere you would use a light oil like on my sewing machine this oil works well as a lubricant.

I have used it to soften my leather shoes and even on leather handbags to keep them soft.

~~#*~~#*~~ON MY BODY ? ~~#*~~#*~~

I have used this as a massage oil and add my on essential oils. I find ones like orange and grapefruit work well with the scent of coconut oil and it is a great massage oil as it lasts well for a massage while some other oils just soak straight in. At at the same time it does soak into the skin during the massage leaving my skin feeling soft, smelling good and my muscles less aching.

Coconut oil is especially good on the feet as it is moisturising yet allows the skin to breath . I often apply this to my feet at bedtime and put on some light moisture retaining socks as this helps keep my feet nice and soft.

I don’t shave any parts of my body except under my arms and the legs below the knee. Sometimes I use my Lush shaving creams and sometimes conditioner but I find that coconut oil does a great job too. I use this especially when my under arms are a bit sore as it lubricates and also soothes the skin. In the bath or shower the coconut oil melts and being a natural oil it doesn’t harm the environment when it goes into the sewage system. Also because coconut oil has lauric acid which is a natural anti-microbial and anti-bacterial it also protects your skin if you do accidentally cut yourself.

I often apply a little melted coconut oil to the ends of my hair in between washes as my hair tends to be dry and frizzy. Even in damp weather this helps stop any frizzing. My hair time was the 80s when perms and curly hair was in fashion and I struggle with the sleek look these days.

I also use coconut oil as a deep conditioning hair mask before washing my hair and after this I do still use conditioner but t really does feed my hair and help to keep it softer and it actually looks shiny too. I always use a natural shampoos and conditioners as chemical ones are full of parabens and harsh chemicals that strip your hair of its natural oils.

IMG_4132I know many people swear by cleansing wipes and cleansing waters but I prefer using an oil based cleanser as it is gentler and doesn’t strip the skin of is natural oils. I particularly like oil based cleansers for around my eyes as it then easily wipes off all make up including mascara and doesn’t need scrubbing and rubbing. This coconut oil works a treat . I apply a little coconut oil which has melted on my finger tips and gently massage it in before using a damp warm cloth the remove all the make up and grime. I use the cloth rinsed out several times if I feel I need to. I find the bamboo clothes work best for me. Cleansing with oil works efficiently as coconut oil breaks up the water-resistant ingredients often mascara and shadow and so no scrubbing is needed just a gentle wipe.

Although the price of this coconut oil may seem expensive when you compare it to the price of some natural and other not so natural creams and potions you can buy for your skin it actually works out quite reasonable. You really do not need a lot to get great moisturising results on your skin. Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants and Vitamin E. Coconut oil, like other natural oils as opposed to petroleum based ones actually goes into the skin rather than lying on top. Because it is absorbed into the skin the coconut oil’s natural antioxidants help to combat the effects of ageing by preventing free radical damage. The Vitamin E also helps cell regeneration, helps fade dark spots and encourages the skin’s ability to produce collagen. This means that my skin feels much softer and smoother and looks healthier , especially hen I apply coconut oil after my bath and before bed. It really isn’t greasy at all as it soaks in really quickly.

When I m cooking I like the fact that when I push the excess off the spoon into the pan I then just massage the excess that is on my finger into my hands rather than having to wash them like I would with some cooking oils! If I run out of hand cream I just pop and get a small pea sized dollop out with a spoon and use coconut oil instead.

I make a great scrub with coconut oil as the base. One which helps with cellulite is just a mix of ground coffee beans finely ground and coconut oil which exfoliates my skin on my his and thighs and leaves my skin glowing and soft and smooth. Another scrub is coconut oil with salt and essential oils or you can use brown sugar instead of the salt and your choice of essential oils that enhance the aroma.
I wouldn’t suggest coconut oil as a sunscreen but if you have been in the sun then I find a mix of aloe vera gel to cool and coconut oil to soak in does help my skin feel soothed and less dry and stop it looking like dried up leather. I apply the aloe vera gel first then the coconut oil as thn thy both get absorbed to do their work.

I sometime apply a small amount of coconut oil under my eyes before bed as it is a great moisturiser and doesn’t sting or run into my eyes and it also helps my eye lashes and eye brows look better too.

I have also used a little coconut oil on my cheek bones and around my eyes to add a nice sheen or glow to my make up. It work well with Benetint on my cheekbones.

Coconut oil makes a great lip salve. I use Lush sample containers and keep some in my hand bag. It “tastes” lovely and is instantly softening and soothing and leave my lips with a subtle sheen. Once again I often apply Benetint first then coconut oil.

IMG_4134

~~#*~~#*~~ANY OTHER USES ? ~~#*~~#*~~

Because coconut contains lauric acid which is not only antimicrobial but also anti bacterial it is perfect for cleansing make up brushes. I clean mine bout once a month using a mixture of coconut oil and an anti bacterial soap. I use a natural one from Lush as it smells great. The brushes I then dry in the airing cupboard if it is wet or in the sunshine when we have any. Keeping your brushes clean means that you will help prevent blemishes from bacteria on a dirty brush. The brushes feel soft and smell great too.

Apart from being great as a hand cream and for softening cuticles you can also use coconut oil around the nail skin when applying polish as then you wont get any polish on your skin. This is best done with a cotton bud as it you get it on your nail the polish will come off your nail too.

I bought some oil pulling oil at great expense last year and when I read what it contained it was actually basically coconut oil. Apparently they have proven with research that coconut oil can kill the Streptococcus bacteria which is what makes your breath smell. So before brushing you teeth just rinse a little coconut oil around your mouth and that should help reduce bad breath. It is also supposed to help whiten teeth. This is based on Ayurvedic medicine, known as gandusha in Ayurveda .
You are supposed to swill the oil around in your mouth for around 20 minutes. It is also supposed to help educe plaque and prevent or cure ulcers and so much more. Check out articles on line to find out more. I was skeptical but I don’t find it unpleasant and if I am home I just keep swilling it around in my mouth while getting on with other things around the house. Anything that might help with my awful teeth I am happy to try. Coconut oil works out much cheaper than the expensive oil pulling sachets which were just a combination of oils. I add a tiny amount of peppermint essential oil as it tastes better and of course I spit out the oil as it is full of toxins and yuk from in between my teeth etc. I spit into a tissue and throw it away as I try not to put too much oil down the plug holes as unblocking is expensive.

~~#*~~#*~~RECOMMENDED ? ~~#*~~#*~~

A whole hearted YES! Even if you don’t want to use it for cooking this has to be one of natures best multi purpose products. I love coconut and use this, coconut water from Vita Coca and also use shredded coconut fried in my rice, I bake with coconut both shredded and dessicated and also use a lot of coconut cream in Asian cooking . It is a wonderful natural product with so many uses . Coconut water from a natural coconut is sterile and has even been used for intravenous rehydration.

I wouldn’t be without my coconut oil and always have at least one jar in my cupboard. We used to use it for cooking in the West Indie when I was a child and I am so pleased it has become a commercial success as it is a fabulous product.

AVEDA INVATI THICKENING CONDITIONER

Standard

invati-thickening-conditioner

We have an Aveda salon in Derby and from time to time I call into see if they have any samples. I would love to be able to buy more of their lovely products but they do have a very high price sadly.

~#*~#*~#*~~ ABOUT AVEDA ~~*#~*#~*#~

aveda: connecting beauty, environment and well–being.”

the art and science of pure flower and plant essences is the core of aveda. our beauty products are alive with the life force of plants, and contain pure essential oils. our solutions are so powerful we call them purescriptions.”

Aveda mainly make hair products but thy do also make other other beauty products such as face care, perfume and even make up.

Aveda was founded by a hairdresser in 1978 and today they have over 7000 salons world wide. Their products are all natural and clinically tested – not on animals. The products are made with ingredients harvested with respect for th environment.

~#*~#*~#*~~ ABOUT THIS CONDITIONER ~~*#~*#~*#~

This conditioner is designed for thin hair and is full of natural oils and butters. There is an intense version that has even more oils and butters than this one if you feel you need more.

It has something called densiplex which is an invigorating blend of Ayurvedic herbs, including ginseng and certified organic turmeric special to Aveda.

It also has soy protein and amino acids that mimic the hair’s natural growth and so stimulates the hair to thicken from within rather than coating each shaft with extra layers.

Arginine which comes from sugar beet as well as the soy protein they state has been clinically proven to restore strength and improve hair elasticity.

They have also added a blend of guar, palm and grapeseed-derived ingredients which all help to thicken the hair while organic kukui nut oil helps add natural shine.

~#*~#*~#*~~ MY THOUGHTS AND EXPERIENCE ~~*#~*#~*#~

My hair is actually very thick and course so I don’t actually have the kind of hair this conditioner is created for but I never like to say no to a sample and like to try new products so I used half of this tube and then let my husband use the other half as his hair is quite thin. I used all the second tube as I did quite like how it felt on my hair !

The conditioner is not that thick and gloopy and is a creamy sort of colour. It has a lovely fresh slightly citrus sort of scent . The thing I like about more natural conditioners like this is that they sort of melt on your hair as opposed to feeling slippery and slimy in my hair. This is because the natural oils and butter do melt and nourish the hair while cheaper High street brands rely upon silicones to make the hair feel smooth and shiny but these build up in your hair and so you have to use more and more.

Needlss to say you massage this conditioner into your hair and scalp after shampooing then rins it out as you do with any other conditioner.

I used to wash my hair daily and use tons of conditioner and I have gradually reduced my hair washing and apply natural oil like argan to my ends in between washes. I only use natural shampoos and conditioners and my hair is so much better and shinier. My scalp doesn’t itch as much and my eczema has gone.

This conditioner left my hair feeling soft and nourished but I can’t say it felt any thicker though I really don’t need that for my hair. My hair smelled nice and styled easily but I did still use my argan oil on my damp hair before drying and in between this use and my next wash. I did like the fact that it didn’t make my hair feel heavy which I found some conditioners have in the past.

My husband also has nice soft and pleasant smelling hair and I really cannot say it was any thicker but I suspect that you need to use it more than once or twice and also Aveda say it should be used with their exfoliating shampoo which I also had and did use and then follow that with their invati scalp revitalizer which I didn’t have.

I loved the way this felt on my hair both wet and dry and my scalp didn’t itch after using it. My hair did look healthy and had a nice shine so I was happy with the results for me but I m not sure how thickening it would be long term.

IMG_4141

~#*~#*~#*~~ AVEDA AND ETHICS ~~*#~*#~*#~

I like the ethics of this company. They only use natural plant ingredients and never test on animals.

Aveda claim to be the first beauty company with 100% post consumer recycled PET for skin care and hair styling. They use minimal packing and as much recyclable and post-consumer recycled materials as they can.

They also claim to be the first beauty company manufacturing with 100% certified wind power.

~#*~#*~#*~~ BUYING THIS ~~*#~*#~*#~

This is where I struggle with Aveda as their products are expensive. Even compared to other 100% natural companies they are expensive which is why I rely on samples to try their products.

This conditioner comes in three sizes. The travel size which holds just 40 ml costs £8, the 200 ml size costs £26 and the 1 litre size requires you to invest £95 which is a whopping amount to spend on a bottle of conditioner in my view.

You can buy this on line from Aveda or from one of their salons if you want to try it. If you are lucky they might have a sample or two

~#*~#*~#*~~ RECOMMENDED? ~~*#~*#~*#~

Well yes I think this is a great conditioner full of lovely natural ingredients from a great ethical company but I won’t be buying it any time soon as there are other equally effective 100% natural conditioners that I use that cost so much less than this one does.

~~~~~ ABOUT DR ORGANIC ~~~~~~
This is a brand sold in Holland & Barratt as well as other places where natural beauty products are sold. Dr Organic has a huge range using different base ingredients. The Argan oil range is quite vast and includes a multi purpose argan oil for face hair and body as well as special ones for hair, face and so on.
Other ranges include snail gel, Manuka honey, Virgin Coconut, Aloe Vera, Tea Tree, Pomegranate to name few.
Dr Organic uses premium organic, natural raw ingredients from around the world. The range is extensive and includes products for hair, oral and body care products to maintain your health and wellbeing.
IMG_4093[1]
~~~~~~~ ABOUT ARGAN OIL ~~~~~

Argan oil comes from the nut of the argan tree grown in Morocco. In Morocco it s used to dip bread, to drip over foods such as couscous as well as a multi purpose beauty product.

The nuts are so tasty that goats climb the trees to eat them. Argan is also grown in China but it was Morocco where the benefits for skin and hair were used by the Berber women particularly and today argan is recognised as being a fabulous multi purpose oil.

Be aware though that not all products that claim to be argan oil are argan oil as many have just a small amount of this precious oil.

Dr Organic has argan as the top ingredient in the list so is argan oil plus some extra ingredients added for benefit not as fillers

~~~~~~~~~ WHAT IS IN THIS ARGAN PRODUCT ? ~~~~~~~
This argan oil hair treatment smells gorgeous and has orange fruit extract, clove leaf oil, geranium oil, lemon peel oil, patchouli oil, rosewood oil, wild mint oil, mandarin peel oil, vanilla fruit extract, spearmint oil, kukui seed oil, moringa seed oil, sacha inchi seed oil.
It smells almost like a Christmas pomander – the kind you make out of oranges with cloves stuck in them.
What is more important is that is all that is in this. There are no fillers, no parabens, no SLS, artificial colours, artificial fragrances or harsh preservatives.IMG_4094[1]
~~~~~~~~~MY EXPERIENCE AND VIEWS ~~~~~~

I love this product and use it after washing and conditioning my hair on wet hair before drying it. I also use it between shampoos an my hair at night as my hair is very dry and quite naturally curly. I apply this to my hair before I go to bed and in the morning it has all been absorbed and my hair is not at all greasy but looks healthy and smooth.

I have been making a real effort not to wash my hair as often as I used to. I use to wash it daily and found I was forever drying and trying to tame it. Now I wash it twice a week or every four days and use this a couple of times on my hair in between I apply it to my hair and not to my scalp and brush it with a tangle teaser brush to spread it through evenly. My hair has been in much better condition since using this regime and my scalp hasn’t had eczema so much either or been as itchy.

This argan product is rich in the extracts of other oils from Africa including kukui seed oil, moringa seed oil, sacha inchi seed oil. Desite being full of all these rich oils this serum doesn’t feel heavy at all and it is absorbed into my hair very quickly.

Other oils are in this serum for their gorgeous fragrances and these ones include the clove, orange fruit extract, geranium oil, lemon peel oil, patchouli oil, rosewood oil, wild mint oil, mandarin peel oil, vanilla fruit extract which combine to smell almost like a perfume in my opinion. If you don’t like the smell of cloves and Christmas spices then it might not appeal as much to you but I love it.

The argan oil is particularly good for skin and hair because it is a rich source of vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids and being a natural oil it is easily absorbed into the skin and hair.IMG_4095[1]

This is a product designed for hair but I see no reason why you cannot use it as a massage oil for the body. I always rub my hands over my arms after applying this to my hair to get the most benefit from the oil and of course there is always some still that soaks into my hands.

This product claims to de tangle hair, eliminate frizz as well as nourish and protect the hair from drying and heat and life generally and it also makes the hair nice and shiny and healthy looking too.

IMG_4097[1]

This product has the Organic Certified symbol on the box and is cruelty free .

It comes in a brown and white box which is bigger than the bottle inside . It has two compartments in the box so looks like it should have two of the bottles in the box. The box is full of product information and has a Moroccan gold decoration on one side of the box. The bottle inside is frosted glass with a push pump dispenser which is covered with a clear plastic lid.

I found that one push of the pump gave me sufficient each time for my hair which though short is very thick and very thirsty for this oil serum. The bottle hold 100 ml and has lasted me for over a year using other products in between.

~~~~~~~ BUYING THIS ~~~~~~
My one was a free trial but this sells for £15.49 in Holland & Barratt and only comes in the one size 100 ml. At present any of the Dr Organic products including this are buy one get one half price so I will be replacing mine next week when I go into Derby as it is by far the best hair product that I have used recently. Argan oil works just as well but doesn’t have the lovely smell and is much the same price.
~~~~~ RECOMMENDED? ~~~~~~~

IMG_4098[1]Well I think it is obvious that I do recommend this as I love it. If you are doubtful as to whether you might like the smell why not ask if you can smell it in the shop. You won’t have to dispense any as the lid will screw off and you can sniff the contents then.

Bare Escentuals bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Gel Cream

Standard

orig

Just before we went away on our latest holiday I was in Boots checking out the various products. While browsing the Bare Minerals counter the young lady there offered me a chance to try their new foundation and applied this on to my face to colour match me. After this she gave me a few samples to try at home for myself. I took these away with me as they were flat and light and had an SPF in them which would protect my face even when I forgot to apply any sun protection.

~~~***~~~ABOUT BARE MINERALS ~~~***~~~
I have to admit I have tried a few of their products but as they are quite expensive I have baulked at actually buy any so far.
Their slogan is “ Be Original, Be Natural, Be Good” which I like as it says a lot in very few words.
Bare Minerals is part of the Bare Escentuals family which includes Buxom and MD Formulations, neither of which I have heard of before. They are in turn under the umbrella of Shiseido . The company is based in San Francisco and their products are based on natural minerals .
I am also happy to know that this company are cruelty free and not just “Unless the country laws require testing” they are genuinely cruelty free.
orig
~~~***~~~PACKAGING ~~~***~~~

My samples came in foil sachets each holding 0.75ml of the product which was plenty for two applications on my face I found.

The full sized version holds 35 ml and comes in an upside down plastic tube – it stands on its lid so that the contents are down where you want them even when I gets emptier . I like these tubs as I have discovered that if you cut the end off with scissors when I is “empty” I can still get around five or six extra uses from the tubes. I just cover the end with cling wrap at that stage!

The tube can be recycled through any plastic recycling scheme.

~~~***~~~ ETHICS ~~~***~~~
As I mentioned before this is a cruelty free company and this is their statement which I have checked with various animal rights sits and have found to be correct :
“Please feel at ease when using bareMinerals products as we do not test any products on animals. We also do not work with any manufacturers that do animal testing.
bareMinerals natural haired brushes are made of Goat and Pony. Please note that no animals are harmed in the process of making our brushes. For our customers who chose not to use animal haired brushes we do offer a variety of high end synthetic brushes.”
They do not use child labour at all either or do business with any company that does.
I cannot find any information about their use of recycled materials or if they are energy conscious in manufacture.
~~~***~~~ ABOUT THIS PRODUCT~~~***~~~

This comes in sixteen shades and the one I was colour matched as best for me was “Natural 05” and I have found it really is a great match and is almost invisible whilst at the same time giving my skin a naturally even tone.

This is one of those great combination products as it is not only giving the skin moisturiser but is also keeping it hydrated and giving a simple natural looking foundation as well. It is a BB cream, a CC and a tinted moisturiser all in one so perfect for those who do not ant to spend hours applying make up.

This product is made with: “olive-derived squalane, marine botanicals, hydrating humectants trehalose and glycerin, and coconut-derived ingredients to replenish, hydrate, nourish and condition. While unique water-encapsulations give skin that instant burst of hydration.”

IMG_2850[1]

~~~&&&~~~ MY EXPERIENCE AND VIEWS ~~~***~~~
I don’t like heavy foundations and usually opt for a BB or CC cream as I find they keep my skin hydrated and do give a decent coverage or balance out uneven skin tones quite well. I do also use a mineral based powder when my T zone gets a bit greasy in summer but I don’t layer on a thick undercoat at all. I wanted something simple and quick to use while on holiday as my husband likes to get going and out and about early so we miss nothing!
The young lady applied this with their special complexion brush but I used my fingers while we were away but I do sometimes use a special make up sponge when at home as it does blend it better than fingers.
I found that I did still cleanse tone and apply a bt of moisturiser which I did before breakfast then applied this hen we can back to our hotel room after breakfast before I cleaned my teeth. I did sometimes mix some sun protection into the moisturiser if we were going out on sunny days but this does have SPF30 which does mean a small amount of protection which is handy.
I liked that this was so smooth and creamy to apply and that a little gave me a decent level of coverage. As it so closely matched my skin colour I really didn’t need to use much at all. I have five samples and these gave me round 10 to 12 days of use which I thought as excellent. By that sort of reckoning a 35 ml tube should give you at least 70 days but it dos depend of how much you personally want to use in order to get the depth of coverage you want.
The temperatures were pretty hot where we were and at times my face did get a bit shiny so I did apply a bit of extra powder to absorb the shine but apart from that this product stayed put and lasted me all day long.
If you were wanting to go out at night then I would suggest a re application but we are past night clubbing and we find that in America and Canada dressing up to go out to eat is not something they do unless you are going very high end and we don’t go high end especially since the £ has dropped in value so much! I applied this in the morning and cleansed my face at night before bed.
The young lady who applied the test product in Boots a that this was the only mae up that you could seep in and nit damage your skin. I didn’t test that claim as I always cleanse my face before bed but this might be useful to those who live it up at night ad are too tired after a night out to cleanse their skin.
IMG_2851[1]
The nice thing about this product is that you can layer it to give a sheer to a deeper coverage so suits those who like a full coverage as well as those like me who prefer a lighter coverage. Obviously if you want a deeper coverage you will use more product and by using the special foundation brush you can blend it into different parts of your face s maybe you get a deeper coverage on your T zone and less on your cheeks or you cn apply a bit more over any skin blemish to cover that too.
Apparently they found that there was an average 215% increase in skin hydration after just one week in an independent U.S. clinical study of 62 participants. I never know what to make of these studies as I am not sure who they measure this or if I is just the participant’s observations so I take this with a pinch of salt.
I was happy with how this felt, lasted and looked on my face. I would buy this and might well do when I have finished some of the many bits and samples as well as full sized products I seem to have collected.
~~~***~~~ WHERE TO BUY AND PRICE ~~~***~~~

I found this in Boots and they sell the 35 ml tube for £27 Bare Minerals site has it for £28 and I suspect postage is extra. Debenhams and House of Fraser also have it for £28 while Escentual.com sells it for £23.80 with, I suspect extra for postage.

I feel that is a fair price for a high quality, natural product that is both pleasant to use and effective and does what it promises.IMG_2852[1]

~~~***~~~ RECOMMENDED?~~~***~~~
Yes I found this to be a decent quality and effective moisturising foundation which suited me as I don’t want a thick coverage. It matched my skin perfectly and should imagine with 16 shades most skin tones would be served well. There are certainly some very pale, almost alabaster ones and others pretty dark – one called Sienna looks to be fairly dark but as you can go and test it in store I would suggest doing that before buying.
Neal’sYard Garden Mint and Bergamot hand cream
Standard
IMG_0148[1]Last year magazines were quite generous with their freebies and despite not being a fan of magazine I bought several just in order to get the free gift. I always looked at the price of the magazine and if that was an amount I would be happy to pay to get the “free” gift then I would buy it otherwise not.
I liked this hand creams much I bought four of the magazines which I then gave away but it meant this hand cream was actually not a bad price. These tubes were a good 50 ml size and this size sells for around £19 so you can see why I bought several of the magazines.
There were three scents of hand cream to choose on the magazines this one, a rose scented one and a geranium and orange one. So I chose two of each and abandoned the magazines at various places such as doctor’s surgeries, hair dressers and hospital waiting rooms as I was passing them or visiting.
~~~&&&~~~ ABOUT NEALS’S YARD ~~~&&&~~~

I have only ever seen Neal’s Yard products in Debenhams or specific high end shops or on line and first came across them in beauty boxes.
Neal’s yard make natural organic health and beauty products and thy started in Covent Garden in 1981 so are a British company.

They state that : “ Our vision was to bring the expertise of the apothecary and our holistic approach to health and beauty to people and communities.” Thirty years ago they were one of a few companies making natural products free from chemical nasties and things like parabens. These days there are so many more companies making natural beauty products so we are lucky to have much more choice.
Neals’ Yard have won many awards over the years for their different products and are much respected in the natural beauty business.

Their products are packaged in simple tubes or old fashioned apothecary bottles and like Weleda their packaging is functional and ethical.

~~~&&&~~~ ETHICS ~~~&&&~~~
Neal’s Yard have very strong ethics and are not only against animals testing in any part of their products, they also believe in fair trade, organic farming, eco packaging, recycling, their factory is an eco building. They have collected a number of accreditation’s logos which cover everything from organic certification to sustainable wild-harvesting, fair trade, packaging from managed forestry, ethical business practice, carbon neutrality, vegetarian status and their stance against animal cruelty .
Compared to other high end companies selling similar products such as L’Occitane Neal’s yard are much more honest about their ethics and like Weleda they are ethical from the start to the finish of their products.
~~~&&&~~~ NEAL’S YARD HAND CREAMS ~th~~&&&~~~
This is one of a number of hand creams made by the company that sell in 50 ml tubes for £10. Three of the varieties I mentioned before but they also have a Melissa one, and some Bee lovely ones plus some had lotions and hand washes too.

All made with natural ingredients and they do smell gorgeous strong and yet natural not chemical and synthetic at all.

~~~&&&~~~ MY EXPERIENCE ~~~&&&~~~
I do love the smell of this one. It doesn’t really smell noticeably of either of the two main ingredients independently but somehow it has a lovely strong citrus aroma which is from the bergamot with a freshness that must come from the mint. It has a strong aroma, herby and not sweet and it really lasts on my hands for ages between hand washes.
It is a white colour quite thick cream but I find it goes in quite quickly into my dry hands. I only use the smallest amount as it is naturally rich and full of natural oils and butters to really nourish the skin.
This has glycerine for softening the hands, soya oil, sweet almond oil beeswax aloe vera, sunflower oil , Litsea cubeba fruit oil, all nourishing oils while the Niaouli leaf oil ( a kind of tea tree),Lemon peel oil, Bergamot oil Palmarosa herb oil, Vetiver oil, Garden mint oil all have medicinal benefits such as analgesic, anti-rheumatic, antiseptic, anti bacterial and so on as well as adding to the wonderful aromatic scent of this hand cream.
I find that by using just around a cm of this cream squeezed out onto my hands and then massaged in leaves them feeling much softer , not greasy and smelling lovely. If I have been gardening or doing lots of house cleaning them I use around an inch ‘snake’ from the tube and spend a little longer massaging it in. I then do nothing for around ten minutes and this gives the cream a good chance to absorb and not get rubbed off onto anything I touch.
IMG_0149[1]
After that my hands feel much less dry and look better too, a better colour and the skin doesn’t look or feel parched. Sometimes I spend time giving my cuticles a good massage with this and it does seem to keep them softer so that they are easier to push back.
~~~&&&~~~ BUYING THIS ~~~&&&~~~

You can buy this directly from Neal’s Yard or from some High end Department stores like John Lewis and even M&S. You can also buy it from Amazon but they charge £14.95 where Neal’s yard only charge £10.

~~~&&&~~~&&& RECOMMENDED? ~~~&&&~~~
Yes indeed I would. I would happily buy this at full £10 price and wish I had bought more of the magazines at the time as I am now on my last tube. This s a high quality fair priced hand cream full of natural oils and great essential oils for extra benefits as well as creating that wonderful citrus, herby ,hint of sweet smell that is a really uplifting smell. The hand cream is beautifully rich and healing leaving my hands feeling nourished and soft but not greasy at all.
I really hope they do anther magazine promotion as I will buy the entire shelf !
Nuxe Honey Lip Balm – rich and nourishing
~~~ PACKAGING ~~~~~

This comes in golden coloured outer box with the product and company names as well as some product information. On the top is a beehive design in a gorgeous honey gold colour
Inside the box is a small glass jar with plastic screw top lid. The glass jar is slightly frosted and again the company and product name as well as the company logo are on the jar in English and French.

I actually prefer this jar to lip balms in lipstick versions as they stay fresher and don’t melt when the weather is hot either.
~~~~~ WHERE TO BUY AND COST ~~~~
You can buy this from the Nuxe on line for £9.50 and various other on line websites too. You can buy it in store from M&S and Boots where they have a 3 for two offer at the time of writing.
The jar holds 15 ml.
~~~~~ MY VIEWS ~~~~
This balm is a really thick and rich and full of lovely natural ingredients, the top one being beeswax followed by shea butter, olus oil, almond oil, grapefruit peel oil, an soya bean oil amongst others.

I find that a small wipe of my clean finger across the product gives me a good covering for my lips. If I apply this to my lips at night before I go to sleep I can still feel it on my lips in the morning so it really does protect and nourish my lips.

IMG_0157[1]
I had quite sore dry lips in the winter and after applying this for just two nights they were back to normal which has never happened with any other lip product I have used.

I find this is perfect for applying to my lips if we are going out for a long walk, especially in winter a it stays on my lips throughout without feeling unpleasant. I usually find lip salves work for around half and hour then they seem to get tired and wear off.
Not only can I feel this as a soothing balm on my lips but the benefit of all the natural oils and butters actually gets absorbed into the lips thus healing them as well as providing a protective layer.

The balm has a pleasant ‘taste’ too. No I don’t eat it but the flavour or aroma that I detect on my lips is a combination of honey/beeswax and subtle citrus grapefruit flavour and is really a natural aroma and not plastic and synthetic like some flavoured lip salves are.
When my son was over from Canada staying for a few weeks his lips were very dry and sore from his week in the sun before he arrived here. I allowed him a smear each night and again after a couple of nights his lips were back to normal and not sore at all.

As I apply this I do get a sensation of the balm being soaked into my lips. It feels that something is happening to my lips, not a tingle but a certain sensation that something is working on my lips.
On the Nuxe website they suggest that you can also use this mixed with a little sugar and use this as a gentle exfoliant on your lips. You then rinse this off and apply a layer of the balm by itself to nourish and repair your lips.

Seriously this stuff is the best lip product I have found an I don’t think £9.50 is a silly price for this as I have been using it since December 2016 and allowed others in my family to try it too and I still have not used a quarter.

IMG_0158[1]
Being a natural product this does have a shelf life but my pot says 05/2019 so it lasts well too. Obviously you need to make sure you use a clean finger or small spatula to get the product out as any dirt or germs added will mean that the product is tainted and will not be as effective or last as well.

I would also suggest that you keep this somewhere out of direct heat as it will melt and that may make the product less pleasant to use and may also mean it is less effective.
This is such a lovely rich balm that it is also very effective as an elbow softener and fantastic if your hands are really dry and sore to apply a little to the driest parts over night.

Nuxe products are 80% natural ingredients and the oils used are plant’s origin oils They don’t use mineral oils or animal-origin ingredients except from the hive. They don’t use parabens either and have natural preservatives .
~~~~~~ ETHICS ~~~~~
Nuxe state: “NUXE do not test on animals neither its products nor the ingredients contained in its products, then respecting the European law that prohibits the use of such methods.”
However according to ‘cruelty free kitty’ a website which looks at beauty companies that are cruelty free Nuxe is not quite as good as they claim.
“Nuxe is marketed as a natural brand that uses safe ingredients and botanical extracts. It makes some sense for a small, natural company to be cruelty-free, but Nuxe is anything but that! They’re big. They’re not all that natural. They also sell in mainland China, and not only online, as confirmed by their Paris headquarters. This is not a cruelty-free company.”IMG_0159[1]
~~~~~~ RECOMMENDED? ~~~~~
Yes I would. I think this is a wonderful natural healing lip product that can also be used on other patches of dry sore skin to heal them too.

Despite their dubious cruelty free ethics which always makes me cross. Either you are and there fore you should not sell anywhere that does test beauty products on animals or else don’t make the claim.
With regard to the naturalness of their ingredients, the product I have appears to be pretty natural but I don’t claim to be an expert of all the ingredients.

It is in a good effective protective packaging that I readily recyclable and easy to get all the contents out right to the very end.
It can be bought easily and the price is very fair for the quality of the product and the way it last so well.

Green Keratin Hyaluronic C Facial Serum

71DcPjMx5fL._SL1500_

I have bought a number of products from this company through amazon and so far not one has disappointed me. This is a highly concentrated facial serum and one of a number they make.

I bought these products at greatly reduced price through a site offering items reduced in return for reviews on amazon. They have recently changed the rues and now you no longer need to write a review and strangely the companies are responding by offering fewer products and making the deal less sweet!!

As a method of advertising it was great as I would never have bothered trying these products before ut having found them I have repurchased them.

~~~&&&~~ ABOUT GREEN KERATIN ~~~&&&~~~
I have never heard of this company before buying these through the reviewing site but now I have found them I have re purchased them as I have found them to be excellent quality.
The company first began to sell their natural skincare range in 2008 after Anderson Lira and fellow Co-Founder Glen Keeble began hand making skincare products for family and friends and met with great feedback.
“The idea was simple: to create effective organic skincare products out of the highest quality natural ingredients. Because, you only get out of your skin what you put into it, and your skin deserves the best.”
Their products are made with the highest quality, certified organic and natural ingredients. They promise their products are free from: parabens, Methylisothiazolinone, SLS & SLES, E.A, D.E.A, silicones and formaldehyde, artificial fragrances and artificial colourings.
Their products are handmade in a warehouse in London so a British brand which is always a plus for me.
~~~&&&~~~ ABOUT THIS SERUM~~~&&&~~~

As I mentioned I have had a number of serums from this company and they all vary slightly as does the packaging. I think they change the packing and formulae from time to time.
Mine happens to come in an airless hard plastic bottle with push pump dispenser so you cannot see the contents . This does mean you are surprised when it comes to the end which is a bit annoying but this does keep the product very fresh and uncontaminated from air or light.

The serum is cloudy creamy colour and reasonably thick, not watery like some serums but slightly thinner than a body lotion.
It has none of the nasties mentioned before – Phenoxyethanol, Alcohol Denat., Sulphates, Parabens, Propylene Glycol, Silicones, Artificial Fragrance or Colouring

The serum is 92% Organic, made in Britain, cruelty-free, suitable for Vegans and anyone who wants natural cruelty free face products that work.

~~~&&&~~~ MY EXPERIENCE AND VIEWS ~~~&&&~~~
I have been using serums prior to my moisturiser for some years now a do like to buy natural products which have not had any ingredients tested on animals too.
I also like the products to feel like they are doing something to my skin, if not actually making me look younger then at least holding back from any more lines and winkles developing too fast.
The ingredients in this are not only natural but are there because they are naturally good for helping improve the condition of the skin in some way.
This serum has vegan Hyaluronic Acid Concentrate. This has become one of the most included ingredients in ant ageing serums in the last few years and is sometimes referred to as “The Fountain of Youth”. This acid seems to attract and hold moisture in the skin and also helps to soften and smooth the skin.
The Vitamin C in this is Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate which is apparently : “A far more stable Vitamin C derivative that overcomes the oxidation problems associated with ascorbic acid”. Vitamin C is a great antioxidant.
It also has Frangipani Extract which is both refreshing and helps condition the skin and also smells great too.plumeria flower
Organic Thistle oil which is a natural source of linoleic acid or Omega-6 fatty acid which comes from the seeds of Safflower. This is good for skin conditioning properties but is not at all greasy making it a good one for those with oily, combination and large-pored skin types.
Organic Rose Flower Water which comes from the flowers of the Damask Rose is perfect for hydration and moisturising the skin while being cooling and refreshing.
Organic Jojoba Oil is known for being a great skin emollient and skin conditioner.
Vitamin E which is both an antioxidant and skin conditioner.
I always wash and cleanse my face night and morning and after that I apply my toner. I then apply whichever serum I am using and let it soak in for a few minutes before applying my moistuiser or facial oil and make up if I am wearing any.
I found this serum was really light and fresh feeling and soaked in very quickly. It smells fresh and pleasant, kind of light floral and cucumber – like. I used this morning and night and found it really effective and it left my skin feeling fresh and tighter looking so the lines were less evident.
It was easy to apply, not gredamasc 1asy or sticky at all and it slid on easily . I found I didn’t need a lot at all, one push down of the pump, to apply all over my face and neck. I was careful around my eyes but did apply it around my eyes as well and the skin around my eyes, underneath especially looked much firmer and less dark and sallow.
This is not a face lift so I was not expecting to look years younger and indeed I was right to have no expectations of that fact but the serum is a lovely light refreshing moisturiser that really did make my skin look better while I was using it.
I always use high quality natural products so was not expecting this to have dramatic effects but I did hope it would make my skin look fresher, feel calm and well nourished and I did just that.
~~~&&&~~~ WHERE TO BUY AND WHAT YOU GET ~~~&&&~~~

This comes in an airless plastic bottle which holds 30 ml of serum. On the Green Keratin site they sell this for £14.95 and on amazon they sell it for the same price and postage is free with Prime if you are a member.

~~~&&&~~~ RECOMMENDED? ~~~&&&~~~
Yes this is a lovely natural serum from an ethical British company that I have found to be nice to use and effective as well.
WELEDA POMEGRANATE FIRMING DAY CREAM
new-pomegranate-day-cream-medium
I have just finished this sample sized tube of Weleda Pomegranate Firming Day Cream so thought I had better write my views before I throw out the empty tube and forget how my skin felt after using this. It is no secret to anyone who regularly reads my views that I rate Weleda very highly and admire their ethics and honest approach towards their customers.
This pomegranate range is designed for those in the 40s to 50s age range and until the Evening Primrose range was brought out this was Weleda’s range that catered for the oldest age group. Personally I am happy with both ranges as they are both full of great natural ingredients to help ageing skin.
~~~&&&~~~~~ ABOUT POMEGRANATE ~~~&&&~~~

Pomegranate is an expert in balancing extremes, stimulating and regenerating life and some of the pomegranate trees have been found to be over 200 years old.

Pomegranate seed oil is a powerful anti oxidant and has regenerative properties as it has a high polyphenols content. Pomegranate seed oil helps to revitalise skin cells. Skin appears tighter and smoother and is fresher and moisturised as well.

Weleda say :

From the age of 40 we benefit most from the positive properties of the pomegranate. At this life stage….as we grow older our skin changes – its vitality diminishes, the regeneration processes slow down and hardening tendencies can no longer be automatically counter-balanced overnight.

Pomegranate mediates between the young and mature opposites, allowing them to flow into one another, developing a framework for dynamic and regenerative effects on the individual. So the pomegranate’s seed oil stabilises and relaxes the skin in times of transition, bringing inner and outer beauty into harmony and encouraging us to look towards the future with serenity.”

~~~&&&~~~ MY EXPERIENCE ~~~&&&~~~~
I am bit older than the age range this product is aimed at but I have had a number of these small sample tubes over the years and even bought couple of the full sized ones. I tend to go for the Evening primrose range now though as that range is for the more mature lady which sadly is the age range I fit into.
I do love the smell of this product, which comes from the essential oils in the cream which Weleda describe in this way :
“ “The natural fragrance has been designed to hit a sophisticated note, subtly sensual, feminine and warming. Essential oil of davana lends an exotic, oriental character together with mellow base notes of sandal wood and neroli”.
It is fresh and uplifting yet also really exotic. It is so great that Weleda have made a lovely scent from this, a light EDT which I wear frequently these days.
The cream is a creamy colour and feel quite light on application. It soaks in very fast n leaves my skin feeling matt and not greasy at all at the same time it feels well nourished.
I always apply my day cream after cleaning, toning and applying a good quality natural serum. I eave ths to soak in before applying any make up if I choose to wear any that day.
According to Weleda this day cream has been created to:
  1. Reduces wrinkles and tautens.
    2) Protects from oxidative stress.
    3) Improves elasticity and resilience
I have found it does a great job of making my skin feel nourished and it never feels tight or sensitive and itchy when using this which some products do seem to do. We are lucky in that the area we live is not too heavily polluted with traffic fumes or industrial pollution bt I hope this is helping fight all the nsties in the environmant for me with its antioxidants.
My skin feels tauter and looks fresher but the lines and wrinkles are still there though they don’t seem to look any worse!
I love that it smells so fresh and uplifting as it cheers em up each morning when I apply this.
Apart from the lovely pomegranate oil this is carefully blended with golden millet, argan and macadamia oils which create this lovely light cream to nourishes and regenerate the skin.
This is all natural as I have mentioned but it is also suitable for vegans as all ingredients are plant based. This product has not been tested on animals and has no petrochemicals or GM ingredients and has no filler ingredients or parabens either.
Even though Weleda use all natural ingredients they are quite powerful and they suggest that you do a test on a small area for a few days when using something new. I have not had any issues with any of their products and I have skin that is prone to allergies and eczema but best be on the safe side.
~~~&&&~~~ RECOMMENDD? ~~~&&&~~~

I have found this an excellent day cream and would certainly recommend it to the 40s plus age range. For those in the menopausal age range then the Evening Primrose might be more suitable. There are other ranges for the younger ladies ( and men) too so check out their website.

INNARAH® VenoDefense™ Treatment Crème

Standard

VenoDefense-Treatment-Light-Hydrating-Crème-700x701-300x300

I was very lucky and received a small 15 ml size version of this product through Beautyontrial.co.uk. I have just finished this so thought I would share my thought.

Firstly I have never heard of this brand before trying this product and having seen the price I doubt I will be enjoying any of their other products.

This small pot costs $90 – it is an AMERICAN company and the full sized 50 ml pot costs $300.

“This all natural range of products is free of synthetic ingredients and will keep your skin glowing from within.” Manzoor H. Jaffery, Founder and CEO.

This product came beautifully presented in a white box with a magnetic closure lid. The small pot sat inside this on a bed of satin padding.It did look classy and at tat price I would expect it to.IMG_0124[1]

The product was in a small black plastic screw top pot which I liked as I could see exactly how much was left and could get every lat tiny bit out easily.

The cream felt light and soft and was absorbed into my skin very fast, didn’t feel tight or greasy but also didn’t really feel like it was doing anything much either.

According to the company :
“INNARAH® formulated the unique technology known as bio-fermentation to perfect its fermented anti-ageing formulas and signature VenoDefense™ collection using cutting edge ingredients such as Elk Antler Velvet, Ormus Gold, plant stem cells and Marine Phytoplankton.”

The ingredients are all natural and I list them here from their website:

“VenoDefenseTM: Propritary complex of anti-inflammatory ingredients that mimic the effects of snake venim and smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles instantly and helps repair damage over time.
Magnolia Tree Bark: Powerful anti-inflammatory.
Chamae Rose: A rich source of Proanthocyanidins beneficial for skin purification, color, tone and elasticity. They are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
Elk Antler Velvet: Power cell growth factors which aid in cell development and cell regeneration. EVA contains essential amino acids which are the building blocks of protien. Shields your skin from damaging effects of environmental aggressors and UV rays.
Sea Buckthorn Oil: Powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
Marine Phytoplankton: Provides essential oxygen to skin cells. A powerful immunostimulant, obtained through the combination of unique marine algae (red and brown algae) harvested on the unspoiled beaches of Brazil. Stimulates collagen production while it strengthens the connective tissues for firmer looking skin.
Alpine Rose Extract: Plant stem cells. Delays the senescence of skin cells.
Snow Algae Extract: Anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory.
Apolactoferrin: Increases natural hyaluronic acid production for immediate and long lasting hydration. Helps to eliminate dark spots.
Plant stem cells: Brightens skin instantly while it evens out skin tone.
Kuku Nut Oil: Long lasting hydration.”

IMG_0125[1]

You can use this cream night and day and it is created with these ingredients to help delay the skin ageing, reduce redness, smooth lies and wrinkles and protect the skin from UV damage and other damaging environmental effects. It i also supposed to be anti inflammatory and help to brighten the skin.

I have used it now for a month solidly after my original short test for beautyontrial and I am happy wit how it feels but I cannot honestly say it has done anything more tan any other skin care product I have used recently.

Although it seems to be a nice enough product the price tag would make repurchasing

~~~&&&~~~ MY EXPERIENCE ~~~&&&~~~
Really this is aimed at people slightly younger than I am and the Evening Primrose range is more suited to my age but this is a beautiful smelling oil which makes a lovely massage oil.
I love all Weleda’s body oisl that I have tried as they are all made using no preservatives, parabens or any mineral based ingredients in their products. They do not test on animals or allow any of their ingredients to be tested on them either.
As this is a natural oil it is really absorbed into the skin so that the benefits of the essential oils get down into the part of the skin it needs to work. Mineral oils sit on the outside of the skin and while they might act as a protective layer they don’t get beyond the outside layer so as soon as you wash they protection is removed. With natural oils they are absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin and work even after you have a shower.
This product has absolutely no palm oil or soy-derived raw materials. either and has been dermatologically approved so is not damaging precious forests. It is also 100% natural and suitable for vegans too.
This oil comes in a dark green glass bottle and holds 100 mls. The dark coloured glass helps to keep the contents protected from light damage, keeps the contents uncontaminated too and of course glass is recyclable.
This oil smells lovely. In fact it is so nice that Weleda have now a EDT based on this aroma too. The ingredients that create this wonderful scent are all there for a reason and one of these is to lift the spirits at the same time as it feeds your skin. This lovely rich oil is naturally scented with the fruity notes of orange and davana which is a bit like a mango smell and oriental scent of vanilla which are both sensual and exotic.
I admit I do dilute this oil a bit with sweet almond or jojoba as it makes it go a little further otherwise a bottle would only last me around five massages. I mix half and half so I get around ten massages from a bottle which become more reasonable.
11271
This oil is a combination of organic pomegranate seed oil, jojoba,,sesame seed oil, sunflower seed oil, wheat germ oil, macadamia seed oil, olive oil and millet seed extract, and it is jojoba or sweet almond that I use prior to applying this more expensive oil so I am not really diluting or contaminating it at all.
I also use this after my evening bath while I am still little damp and my skin is warm as I find that it goes further then.
I like this oil as it is specially good for sensitive skins and I am prone to eczema as well as very dry skin so this nourishes my skin as well as helping regenerate the cells and soothes any eczema pronec bits.
You can also add some of this oil to the pomegranate body lotion to make that a bit richer and make this oil go a bit further. You could also add some of this to any all natural unscented body lotion to make it more beneficial and smell good too.
Pomegranate has been proven to help regenerate skin cells so by applying this at night after my bath I am giving it the longest time absorb into my skin over night. It also mean that my body smells great in bed and I can enjoy the aroma as I drift off to sleep.
According to  Weleda from their website ,in tests on people it was found that:
50% Increased cell renewal Tested after 14 days
13% Increased skin firmness Tested after 28 days
