Bare Escentuals bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Gel Cream

Just before we went away on our latest holiday I was in Boots checking out the various products. While browsing the Bare Minerals counter the young lady there offered me a chance to try their new foundation and applied this on to my face to colour match me. After this she gave me a few samples to try at home for myself. I took these away with me as they were flat and light and had an SPF in them which would protect my face even when I forgot to apply any sun protection.

~~~***~~~ABOUT BARE MINERALS ~~~***~~~
I have to admit I have tried a few of their products but as they are quite expensive I have baulked at actually buy any so far.
Their slogan is “ Be Original, Be Natural, Be Good” which I like as it says a lot in very few words.
Bare Minerals is part of the Bare Escentuals family which includes Buxom and MD Formulations, neither of which I have heard of before. They are in turn under the umbrella of Shiseido . The company is based in San Francisco and their products are based on natural minerals .
I am also happy to know that this company are cruelty free and not just “Unless the country laws require testing” they are genuinely cruelty free.
~~~***~~~PACKAGING ~~~***~~~

My samples came in foil sachets each holding 0.75ml of the product which was plenty for two applications on my face I found.

The full sized version holds 35 ml and comes in an upside down plastic tube – it stands on its lid so that the contents are down where you want them even when I gets emptier . I like these tubs as I have discovered that if you cut the end off with scissors when I is “empty” I can still get around five or six extra uses from the tubes. I just cover the end with cling wrap at that stage!

The tube can be recycled through any plastic recycling scheme.

~~~***~~~ ETHICS ~~~***~~~
As I mentioned before this is a cruelty free company and this is their statement which I have checked with various animal rights sits and have found to be correct :
“Please feel at ease when using bareMinerals products as we do not test any products on animals. We also do not work with any manufacturers that do animal testing.
bareMinerals natural haired brushes are made of Goat and Pony. Please note that no animals are harmed in the process of making our brushes. For our customers who chose not to use animal haired brushes we do offer a variety of high end synthetic brushes.”
They do not use child labour at all either or do business with any company that does.
I cannot find any information about their use of recycled materials or if they are energy conscious in manufacture.
~~~***~~~ ABOUT THIS PRODUCT~~~***~~~

This comes in sixteen shades and the one I was colour matched as best for me was “Natural 05” and I have found it really is a great match and is almost invisible whilst at the same time giving my skin a naturally even tone.

This is one of those great combination products as it is not only giving the skin moisturiser but is also keeping it hydrated and giving a simple natural looking foundation as well. It is a BB cream, a CC and a tinted moisturiser all in one so perfect for those who do not ant to spend hours applying make up.

This product is made with: “olive-derived squalane, marine botanicals, hydrating humectants trehalose and glycerin, and coconut-derived ingredients to replenish, hydrate, nourish and condition. While unique water-encapsulations give skin that instant burst of hydration.”

~~~&&&~~~ MY EXPERIENCE AND VIEWS ~~~***~~~
I don’t like heavy foundations and usually opt for a BB or CC cream as I find they keep my skin hydrated and do give a decent coverage or balance out uneven skin tones quite well. I do also use a mineral based powder when my T zone gets a bit greasy in summer but I don’t layer on a thick undercoat at all. I wanted something simple and quick to use while on holiday as my husband likes to get going and out and about early so we miss nothing!
The young lady applied this with their special complexion brush but I used my fingers while we were away but I do sometimes use a special make up sponge when at home as it does blend it better than fingers.
I found that I did still cleanse tone and apply a bt of moisturiser which I did before breakfast then applied this hen we can back to our hotel room after breakfast before I cleaned my teeth. I did sometimes mix some sun protection into the moisturiser if we were going out on sunny days but this does have SPF30 which does mean a small amount of protection which is handy.
I liked that this was so smooth and creamy to apply and that a little gave me a decent level of coverage. As it so closely matched my skin colour I really didn’t need to use much at all. I have five samples and these gave me round 10 to 12 days of use which I thought as excellent. By that sort of reckoning a 35 ml tube should give you at least 70 days but it dos depend of how much you personally want to use in order to get the depth of coverage you want.
The temperatures were pretty hot where we were and at times my face did get a bit shiny so I did apply a bit of extra powder to absorb the shine but apart from that this product stayed put and lasted me all day long.
If you were wanting to go out at night then I would suggest a re application but we are past night clubbing and we find that in America and Canada dressing up to go out to eat is not something they do unless you are going very high end and we don’t go high end especially since the £ has dropped in value so much! I applied this in the morning and cleansed my face at night before bed.
The young lady who applied the test product in Boots a that this was the only mae up that you could seep in and nit damage your skin. I didn’t test that claim as I always cleanse my face before bed but this might be useful to those who live it up at night ad are too tired after a night out to cleanse their skin.
The nice thing about this product is that you can layer it to give a sheer to a deeper coverage so suits those who like a full coverage as well as those like me who prefer a lighter coverage. Obviously if you want a deeper coverage you will use more product and by using the special foundation brush you can blend it into different parts of your face s maybe you get a deeper coverage on your T zone and less on your cheeks or you cn apply a bit more over any skin blemish to cover that too.
Apparently they found that there was an average 215% increase in skin hydration after just one week in an independent U.S. clinical study of 62 participants. I never know what to make of these studies as I am not sure who they measure this or if I is just the participant’s observations so I take this with a pinch of salt.
I was happy with how this felt, lasted and looked on my face. I would buy this and might well do when I have finished some of the many bits and samples as well as full sized products I seem to have collected.
~~~***~~~ WHERE TO BUY AND PRICE ~~~***~~~

I found this in Boots and they sell the 35 ml tube for £27 Bare Minerals site has it for £28 and I suspect postage is extra. Debenhams and House of Fraser also have it for £28 while sells it for £23.80 with, I suspect extra for postage.

I feel that is a fair price for a high quality, natural product that is both pleasant to use and effective and does what it promises.IMG_2852[1]

~~~***~~~ RECOMMENDED?~~~***~~~
Yes I found this to be a decent quality and effective moisturising foundation which suited me as I don’t want a thick coverage. It matched my skin perfectly and should imagine with 16 shades most skin tones would be served well. There are certainly some very pale, almost alabaster ones and others pretty dark – one called Sienna looks to be fairly dark but as you can go and test it in store I would suggest doing that before buying.
This is one of three Whish body butter mini tubes I have received in one of my beauty boxes during the last year or so. I have stopped all my subscriptions as I have so many products to use and feel I should reduce my stash before treating myself to yet more.
~*~*~*~* ABOUT WHISH ~*~*~*~*~
I knew absolutely nothing about Whish before I got these little tubes and had never seen them anywhere in shops or on line. They are an America company with good ethics it seems
Jesse Werner had very sensitive skin that came out in a rash from all products he tried so he set about trying to find one that would not cause this problem. One day he came across a rich European cream free of harsh chemicals that worked for him. His wife used it one day and loved how it felt but was less keen on the smell. Jesse then set about trying to find one for her.
He began to research this issue and found that most bath and beauty products sold were full of chemicals. He decided to make his own and from this beginning Whish as born.
th (1)~*~*~*~*~ ETHICS AND MORALS ~*~*~*~*~
They do not test on animal and they use all natural ingredients with no added sulphates, parabens, DEA, TEA, petrochemcals or phthalates and all the testing is done on willing human volunteers. Their packing and ingredients are earth friendly, many ingredients organic and they are leaping bunny certified.
~*~*~*~*~ ABOUT THIS BODY BUTTER ~*~*~*~*~
This body butter comes in a cylindrical container in the full sized version which holds 150 ml. My tube is a small upside down one which means the lid is at the end the contents are squeezed out from. My tube held 22 ml and is the same pretty lilac o lavender colour as the full size container.
This body butter is part of the Three Whishes collection of body butters which include these varieties:
As well as the lavender butter that I have sampled, this butter is available in the following scents/fragrances:
Pomegranate, Lemongrass, Almond, Coconut and Blueberry. They also have limited edition fragrances which include Acai and grapefruit, Blue Agave and Perfectly Plain but there may be others a different times.
~*~*~*~*~ WHAT WHISH SAY ~*~*~*~*~*~
“ For amazingly moisturized skin, we’ve created a truly indulgent body cream with a unique triple antioxidant based formula. This fully loaded lotion both softens and soothes the skin while also helping to replenish and firm. Such sweet softness.”
~*~*~*~*~ WHAT IS IN THIS BODY BUTTER ? ~*~*~*~*~*~IMG_2910[1]
All the Three Whishes body butters contain Organic Aloe, Organic Raspberry Butter, and Organic Shea Butter. They are great for repairing and rejuvenating antioxidant ingredients.
The ingredients that moisturise in this are :
Organic Aloe: which is a gentle and soothing, natural antiseptic with anti-bacterial properties, anti-inflammatory, and moisturising properties.
Organic Shea Butter which is a wonderful natural moisturiser with a high content of non-saponifiable fats which are by far the best natural skin moisturisers. It is also high in anti-oxidants.
Organic Raspberry Butter which is high in anti-oxidants which attack free radicals and is also a good moisturiser.
As well as these lovely natural moisturising ingredients this also has Organic Rice Bran Oil which is very high in tocotrienols; a super anti-oxidant that they believe is 30 times more powerful than vitamin E. Some studies have been said to show help for skin cancer and improve sun screen efficiency.
Finally this also has a great firming ingredient Organic Seaweed Extract: which is full of firming peptides and anti-oxidants.
IMG_2911[1]~*~*~*~*~ WHERE TO BUY AND HOW MUCH ? ~*~*~*~**~
As I said mine came in beauty boxes so I had to do a little hunting around. From Amazon the full sized product can be bought for £13.70 which seems good value until you add the £6.12 delivery price. Birch box have got some Whish products but not this one but the lemongrass and pomegranate ones are £8.35 plus postage while th almond on s £1670 also plus postage. The Whish site is American so prices are in US$ and the body butters are all $18 but postage will be high coming from the States.
~*~*~*~*~*~ MY VIEWS ~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I did love the smell of this it was sweetly lavender rather than herby lavender but not in any sickly or ‘old lady’ way at all. It is a pleasant calming fragrance and one I loved to apply after my evening bath and it soaked into my skin easily and left it smelling great.
I found the body butter no where as thick as a Body Shop butter, more like a rich lotion in texture. Because it is all natural it kind of melts into your skin and really soaks in leaving my skin feeling well nourished and yet not feeling sticky, greasy or slippery at all.
I have very sensitive skin so have to be careful what I apply and this has not caused me any itchiness at all nor did I develop any rashes as sometimes
I found this was very effective even on my dry skin areas such as my knees and elbows as well as making my skin on my legs look less dry and parched.
I like this body butter but would I pay £13.70 plus £6.12 for it? The answer is no as I can get other nice natural body lotions that are equally good for less. I might be tempted with the Birchbox price though!
Green Keratin Hyaluronic C Facial Serum
Green Keratin Hyaluronic C Facial Serum
I have bought a number of products from this company through amazon and so far not one has disappointed me. This is a highly concentrated facial serum and one of a number they make.
I bought these products at greatly reduced price through a site offering items reduced in return for reviews on amazon. They have recently changed the rues and now you no longer need to write a review and strangely the companies are responding by offering fewer products and making the deal less sweet!!
As a method of advertising it was great as I would never have bothered trying these products before ut having found them I have repurchased them.
~~~&&&~~ ABOUT GREEN KERATIN ~~~&&&~~~

I have never heard of this company before buying these through the reviewing site but now I have found them I have re purchased them as I have found them to be excellent quality.
The company first began to sell their natural skincare range in 2008 after Anderson Lira and fellow Co-Founder Glen Keeble began hand making skincare products for family and friends and met with great feedback.

“The idea was simple: to create effective organic skincare products out of the highest quality natural ingredients. Because, you only get out of your skin what you put into it, and your skin deserves the best.”
Their products are made with the highest quality, certified organic and natural ingredients. They promise their products are free from: parabens, Methylisothiazolinone, SLS & SLES, E.A, D.E.A, silicones and formaldehyde, artificial fragrances and artificial colourings.

Their products are handmade in a warehouse in London so a British brand which is always a plus for me.

~~~&&&~~~ ABOUT THIS SERUM~~~&&&~~~
As I mentioned I have had a number of serums from this company and they all vary slightly as does the packaging. I think they change the packing and formulae from time to time.
Mine happens to come in an airless hard plastic bottle with push pump dispenser so you cannot see the contents . This does mean you are surprised when it comes to the end which is a bit annoying but this does keep the product very fresh and uncontaminated from air or light.
The serum is cloudy creamy colour and reasonably thick, not watery like some serums but slightly thinner than a body lotion.
It has none of the nasties mentioned before – Phenoxyethanol, Alcohol Denat., Sulphates, Parabens, Propylene Glycol, Silicones, Artificial Fragrance or Colouring
The serum is 92% Organic, made in Britain, cruelty-free, suitable for Vegans and anyone who wants natural cruelty free face products that work.
~~~&&&~~~ MY EXPERIENCE AND VIEWS ~~~&&&~~~

I have been using serums prior to my moisturiser for some years now a do like to buy natural products which have not had any ingredients tested on animals too.
I also like the products to feel like they are doing something to my skin, if not actually making me look younger then at least holding back from any more lines and winkles developing too fast.

The ingredients in this are not only natural but are there because they are naturally good for helping improve the condition of the skin in some way.
This serum has vegan Hyaluronic Acid Concentrate. This has become one of the most included ingredients in ant ageing serums in the last few years and is sometimes referred to as “The Fountain of Youth”. This acid seems to attract and hold moisture in the skin and also helps to soften and smooth the skin.

The Vitamin C in this is Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate which is apparently : “A far more stable Vitamin C derivative that overcomes the oxidation problems associated with ascorbic acid”. Vitamin C is a great antioxidant.
It also has Frangipani Extract which is both refreshing and helps condition the skin and also smells great too.plumeria flower

Organic Thistle oil which is a natural source of linoleic acid or Omega-6 fatty acid which comes from the seeds of Safflower. This is good for skin conditioning properties but is not at all greasy making it a good one for those with oily, combination and large-pored skin types.

Organic Rose Flower Water which comes from the flowers of the Damask Rose is perfect for hydration and moisturising the skin while being cooling and refreshing.

Organic Jojoba Oil is known for being a great skin emollient and skin conditioner.
Vitamin E which is both an antioxidant and skin conditioner.

I always wash and cleanse my face night and morning and after that I apply my toner. I then apply whichever serum I am using and let it soak in for a few minutes before applying my moistuiser or facial oil and make up if I am wearing any.
I found this serum was really light and fresh feeling and soaked in very quickly. It smells fresh and pleasant, kind of light floral and cucumber – like. I used this morning and night and found it really effective and it left my skin feeling fresh and tighter looking so the lines were less evident.

It was easy to apply, not gredamasc 1asy or sticky at all and it slid on easily . I found I didn’t need a lot at all, one push down of the pump, to apply all over my face and neck. I was careful around my eyes but did apply it around my eyes as well and the skin around my eyes, underneath especially looked much firmer and less dark and sallow.
This is not a face lift so I was not expecting to look years younger and indeed I was right to have no expectations of that fact but the serum is a lovely light refreshing moisturiser that really did make my skin look better while I was using it.

I always use high quality natural products so was not expecting this to have dramatic effects but I did hope it would make my skin look fresher, feel calm and well nourished and I did just that.

~~~&&&~~~ WHERE TO BUY AND WHAT YOU GET ~~~&&&~~~
This comes in an airless plastic bottle which holds 30 ml of serum. On the Green Keratin site they sell this for £14.95 and on amazon they sell it for the same price and postage is free with Prime if you are a member.
~~~&&&~~~ RECOMMENDED? ~~~&&&~~~

Yes this is a lovely natural serum from an ethical British company that I have found to be nice to use and effective as well.

I have just finished this sample sized tube of Weleda Pomegranate Firming Day Cream so thought I had better write my views before I throw out the empty tube and forget how my skin felt after using this. It is no secret to anyone who regularly reads my views that I rate Weleda very highly and admire their ethics and honest approach towards their customers.

This pomegranate range is designed for those in the 40s to 50s age range and until the Evening Primrose range was brought out this was Weleda’s range that catered for the oldest age group. Personally I am happy with both ranges as they are both full of great natural ingredients to help ageing skin.

If you would like to know more about Weleda and their ethics and how they were founded check out my other blog posts with Weleda products

~~~&&&~~~~~ ABOUT POMEGRANATE ~~~&&&~~~
Pomegranate is an expert in balancing extremes, stimulating and regenerating life and some of the pomegranate trees have been found to be over 200 years old.
Pomegranate seed oil is a powerful anti oxidant and has regenerative properties as it has a high polyphenols content. Pomegranate seed oil helps to revitalise skin cells. Skin appears tighter and smoother and is fresher and moisturised as well.
Weleda say :
From the age of 40 we benefit most from the positive properties of the pomegranate. At this life stage….as we grow older our skin changes – its vitality diminishes, the regeneration processes slow down and hardening tendencies can no longer be automatically counter-balanced overnight.
Pomegranate mediates between the young and mature opposites, allowing them to flow into one another, developing a framework for dynamic and regenerative effects on the individual. So the pomegranate’s seed oil stabilises and relaxes the skin in times of transition, bringing inner and outer beauty into harmony and encouraging us to look towards the future with serenity.”
~~~&&&~~~ MY EXPERIENCE ~~~&&&~~~~

I am bit older than the age range this product is aimed at but I have had a number of these small sample tubes over the years and even bought couple of the full sized ones. I tend to go for the Evening primrose range now though as that range is for the more mature lady which sadly is the age range I fit into.

I do love the smell of this product, which comes from the essential oils in the cream which Weleda describe in this way :

“ “The natural fragrance has been designed to hit a sophisticated note, subtly sensual, feminine and warming. Essential oil of davana lends an exotic, oriental character together with mellow base notes of sandal wood and neroli”.

It is fresh and uplifting yet also really exotic. It is so great that Weleda have made a lovely scent from this, a light EDT which I wear frequently these days.

The cream is a creamy colour and feel quite light on application. It soaks in very fast n leaves my skin feeling matt and not greasy at all at the same time it feels well nourished.

I always apply my day cream after cleaning, toning and applying a good quality natural serum. I eave ths to soak in before applying any make up if I choose to wear any that day.

According to Weleda this day cream has been created to:

  1. Reduces wrinkles and tautens.
    2) Protects from oxidative stress.
    3) Improves elasticity and resilience

I have found it does a great job of making my skin feel nourished and it never feels tight or sensitive and itchy when using this which some products do seem to do. We are lucky in that the area we live is not too heavily polluted with traffic fumes or industrial pollution bt I hope this is helping fight all the nsties in the environmant for me with its antioxidants.

My skin feels tauter and looks fresher but the lines and wrinkles are still there though they don’t seem to look any worse!

I love that it smells so fresh and uplifting as it cheers em up each morning when I apply this.

Apart from the lovely pomegranate oil this is carefully blended with golden millet, argan and macadamia oils which create this lovely light cream to nourishes and regenerate the skin.

This is all natural as I have mentioned but it is also suitable for vegans as all ingredients are plant based. This product has not been tested on animals and has no petrochemicals or GM ingredients and has no filler ingredients or parabens either.

Even though Weleda use all natural ingredients they are quite powerful and they suggest that you do a test on a small area for a few days when using something new. I have not had any issues with any of their products and I have skin that is prone to allergies and eczema but best be on the safe side.

~~~&&&~~~ RECOMMENDD? ~~~&&&~~~
I have found this an excellent day cream and would certainly recommend it to the 40s plus age range. For those in the menopausal age range then the Evening Primrose might be more suitable. There are other ranges for the younger ladies ( and men) too so check out their website.
INNARAH® VenoDefense™ Treatment Crème
I was very lucky and received a small 15 ml size version of this product through I have just finished this so thought I would share my thought.
Firstly I have never heard of this brand before trying this product and having seen the price I doubt I will be enjoying any of their other products.
This small pot costs $90 – it is an AMERICAN company and the full sized 50 ml pot costs $300.
“This all natural range of products is free of synthetic ingredients and will keep your skin glowing from within.” Manzoor H. Jaffery, Founder and CEO.
This product came beautifully presented in a white box with a magnetic closure lid. The small pot sat inside this on a bed of satin padding.It did look classy and at tat price I would expect it to.IMG_0124[1]
The product was in a small black plastic screw top pot which I liked as I could see exactly how much was left and could get every lat tiny bit out easily.
The cream felt light and soft and was absorbed into my skin very fast, didn’t feel tight or greasy but also didn’t really feel like it was doing anything much either.
According to the company :
“INNARAH® formulated the unique technology known as bio-fermentation to perfect its fermented anti-ageing formulas and signature VenoDefense™ collection using cutting edge ingredients such as Elk Antler Velvet, Ormus Gold, plant stem cells and Marine Phytoplankton.”
The ingredients are all natural and I list them here from their website:
“VenoDefenseTM: Propritary complex of anti-inflammatory ingredients that mimic the effects of snake venim and smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles instantly and helps repair damage over time.
Magnolia Tree Bark: Powerful anti-inflammatory.
Chamae Rose: A rich source of Proanthocyanidins beneficial for skin purification, color, tone and elasticity. They are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
Elk Antler Velvet: Power cell growth factors which aid in cell development and cell regeneration. EVA contains essential amino acids which are the building blocks of protien. Shields your skin from damaging effects of environmental aggressors and UV rays.
Sea Buckthorn Oil: Powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
Marine Phytoplankton: Provides essential oxygen to skin cells. A powerful immunostimulant, obtained through the combination of unique marine algae (red and brown algae) harvested on the unspoiled beaches of Brazil. Stimulates collagen production while it strengthens the connective tissues for firmer looking skin.
Alpine Rose Extract: Plant stem cells. Delays the senescence of skin cells.
Snow Algae Extract: Anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory.
Apolactoferrin: Increases natural hyaluronic acid production for immediate and long lasting hydration. Helps to eliminate dark spots.
Plant stem cells: Brightens skin instantly while it evens out skin tone.
Kuku Nut Oil: Long lasting hydration.”
You can use this cream night and day and it is created with these ingredients to help delay the skin ageing, reduce redness, smooth lies and wrinkles and protect the skin from UV damage and other damaging environmental effects. It i also supposed to be anti inflammatory and help to brighten the skin.
I have used it now for a month solidly after my original short test for beautyontrial and I am happy wit how it feels but I cannot honestly say it has done anything more tan any other skin care product I have used recently.
Although it seems to be a nice enough product the price tag would make repurchasing
Weleda Pomegranate Body
I love Weleda and really admire their ethics and I have yet to find a product of theirs that I do not like. I have been to a few Weleda events at their factory in Derbyshire and every time I have been welcomed and treated like an old friend.
Be aware tough that often discounted products have short dates on them which is okay if you want to use them straight away.  Some sites may not have the UK packing which may mean you don’t have instructions etc in English so just to let you know.
~~~&&&~~~ MY EXPERIENCE ~~~&&&~~~

Really this is aimed at people slightly younger than I am and the Evening Primrose range is more suited to my age but this is a beautiful smelling oil which makes a lovely massage oil.

I love all Weleda’s body oisl that I have tried as they are all made using no preservatives, parabens or any mineral based ingredients in their products. They do not test on animals or allow any of their ingredients to be tested on them either.

As this is a natural oil it is really absorbed into the skin so that the benefits of the essential oils get down into the part of the skin it needs to work. Mineral oils sit on the outside of the skin and while they might act as a protective layer they don’t get beyond the outside layer so as soon as you wash they protection is removed. With natural oils they are absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin and work even after you have a shower.

This product has absolutely no palm oil or soy-derived raw materials. either and has been dermatologically approved so is not damaging precious forests. It is also 100% natural and suitable for vegans too.

This oil comes in a dark green glass bottle and holds 100 mls. The dark coloured glass helps to keep the contents protected from light damage, keeps the contents uncontaminated too and of course glass is recyclable.

This oil smells lovely. In fact it is so nice that Weleda have now a EDT based on this aroma too. The ingredients that create this wonderful scent are all there for a reason and one of these is to lift the spirits at the same time as it feeds your skin. This lovely rich oil is naturally scented with the fruity notes of orange and davana which is a bit like a mango smell and oriental scent of vanilla which are both sensual and exotic.

I admit I do dilute this oil a bit with sweet almond or jojoba as it makes it go a little further otherwise a bottle would only last me around five massages. I mix half and half so I get around ten massages from a bottle which become more reasonable.

This oil is a combination of organic pomegranate seed oil, jojoba,,sesame seed oil, sunflower seed oil, wheat germ oil, macadamia seed oil, olive oil and millet seed extract, and it is jojoba or sweet almond that I use prior to applying this more expensive oil so I am not really diluting or contaminating it at all.

I also use this after my evening bath while I am still little damp and my skin is warm as I find that it goes further then.

I like this oil as it is specially good for sensitive skins and I am prone to eczema as well as very dry skin so this nourishes my skin as well as helping regenerate the cells and soothes any eczema pronec bits.

You can also add some of this oil to the pomegranate body lotion to make that a bit richer and make this oil go a bit further. You could also add some of this to any all natural unscented body lotion to make it more beneficial and smell good too.

Pomegranate has been proven to help regenerate skin cells so by applying this at night after my bath I am giving it the longest time absorb into my skin over night. It also mean that my body smells great in bed and I can enjoy the aroma as I drift off to sleep.

According to  Weleda from their website ,in tests on people it was found that:
50% Increased cell renewal Tested after 14 days
13% Increased skin firmness Tested after 28 days

This is a lovely  natural serum, not tested on animals that is beautifully packaged and lovely to look at as well – a bit like a Christmas ornament .

It is quickly absorbed and feels cool and not heavy or greasy at all.

It smells lovely too – gently of rose.

I apply a little on my cheeks to leave a few flecks of gold as it highlights and gives that party look.

It feels weightless on my skin and the subtle rose scent is lovely .

It can be used as a make up primer as well as a serum and although it didn’t make my make up stay put any better it did give that lovely sparkle from the gold flakes.

Strongest points:

Real gold flakes
Lovey rose scent
Classy exotic packaging
Easy pump dispenser
not tested on animals
leaves flecks of gold on your cheeks if you apply generously
cool and easily absorbed
Nice eggs shaped bottle – easy to hold
Weakest points
Quite expensive
Not easy to find to buy – not available on amazon just now

A lovely cooling and gentle serum that soaks in quickly and does seem to have helped my skin show the wrinkles less.

Gluki Organics – Organic Mother hand and body moisturiser

Gluki Organics – Organic Mother hand and body moisturiser

GLÜKi certified organic Hand & Body Moisturising Lotion with Organic Kalahari Melon seed oil, Aloe Vera, Rooibos Leaf Extract, Orange Peel Oil and other botanical s that contain precious nutrients and essential Omega oils to naturally feed your skin. Rooibos Leaf Extract and Tocopherol (Vitamin E) Oil provide the skin with valuable nutrients and anti-oxidants.

Organic ingredients are easily absorbed into your skin and also help the skin to start producing its own protective oils again. This is a very therapeutic lotion with Omega oils, vitamins and other micro-nutrients to help your skin feel and look healthier.

The scent is from the natural ingredients and is a fresh, fruity aroma and truly lovely.

I prefer to use natural products on my skin as it is the largest organ in our body and does absorb all put on it including chemicals. This means that using lotions and oils that contain Paraffinum, Mineral oil or Petroleum Gel can clog the skins pores and stop the skin breathing as well as unbalancing the natural PH of the skin.

This is a really gorgeous lotion for hand and body and is a reasonable price for an all natural product I think.

99% natural ingredients
98% vegetable ingredients from organic farming
47% of total ingredients organic
Smells divine
Moisturises well
not tested on animals – ECO cert
Simple yet effective packaging

This is a lovely gentle hand and body lotion that sells fruity and not too sweet that is safe for the most sensitive skins and is full of quality and effective ingredients. Weleda Revitalising Evening Primrose oil

evening p oil

I really love Weleda and their products and cannot shout their praises enough.

~~~~~~~ABOUT WELEDA ~~~~~~
This company was originally founded by Rudolph Steiner in 1921 in Austria as a pharmaceutical company . Weleda’s products are created using the principles of principles of anthroposophic medicine. This is a holistic approach based on products made using ingredients grown in balance and harmony with nature.
“A medical system that complements conventional medicine, anthroposophy takes a holistic approach and uses both conventional and anthroposophic medicinal products……. The therapy method of anthroposophic medicine is based on the balance between four organisational principles: the physical level; life forces level, or vitality; mental level and individual level or ego. The goal of therapy is to restore the necessary equilibrium when these four principles are out of balance.”
Weleda use only natural products and most are organic. They source their products from around the world and pay above fair prices for their ingredients.
They use no preservatives, parabens or any mineral based ingredients in their products. Thy do not test on animals or allow any of their ingredients to be tested on them either.
“Whether it’s through fair trade, biodynamic cultivation or the supportive development of our employees – sustainability is part of our roots.”
They are also committed to using eco friendly packaging which also gets the product to the consumer in the best condition.
This is one of Weleda’s newer ranges and includes quite a few products which include: Age Revitalising Concentrate, Age Revitalising Day Cream, Age Revitalising Eye and Lip Cream, Age Revitalising Night Cream, Revitalising Body Wash, Revitalising Hand cream, Revitalising Body lotion and this Body Oil as well as a couple of combined products in gift packs.
Evening Primrose is native to America and grows in pretty dry and infertile soil. It has been used by Native Americans for centuries as a tea for skin problems, healing wounds and other ailments.
The oil from evening primrose seeds contains high concentrations of essential linoleic acid and y-linolenic acid. This is something that keeps skin supple and our bodies produce less as we get older. Luckily for us evening primrose seed oil does a great job of protecting the skin against moisture loss, removing rough patches and promoting cell growth and regeneration so is particularly helpful in helping to stimulate the natural defence and restorative processes of mature skin.
EN_Evening Primrose_Age Revitalizing_Body Oil_RGB-mediumFirstly this is a natural oil and so is readily absorbed into the skin as opposed to sitting on the skin like petroleum based oils do. This product has absolutely no palm oil or soy-derived raw materials. either and has been dermatologically approved.
This comes in a green coloured glass bottle and holds 100 mls. The coloured glass keeps the contents protected from light damage and glass is recyclable and keeps the contents uncontaminated too.
This is an 100% natural product and suitable for vegans and being Weleda it is not tested on animals anywhere in its production and nor are any ingredients at any time.
This oil smells gorgeous, so good in fact that Weleda have now a EDT based on this aroma too. The ingredients that create this wonderful scent are all there for a reason and one of these is to lift the spirits at the same time as it feeds your skin. This lovely rich oil is naturally scented with cardamom, magnolia, and sandalwood which gives a wonderfully exotic aroma floral and spicy yet still fresh and uplifting.
ep3This oil is for use all over your body wherever you feel it needs nourishing. As it is quit expensive – the 100 ml costs £22.95 – I use a good natural oil to moisturise after my bath then use just a little of this spread thinly after the basic natural unscented oil and that way I don’t need to use so much.
This oil is a combination of organic evening primrose oil, jojoba, wheat-germ oil,sesame seed oil, sunflower seed oil, wheat germ oil, macadamia seed oil, olive oil and millet seed extract, and it is jojoba that I use prior to applying this more expensive oil so I am not really diluting or contaminating it at all.
I like to apply this after my bath while still warm and slightly damp and the oils trap in that moisture. This oil really does scent my skin and so a I get into bed I smell really nice and it helps me relax as I read before going to sleep.
I find applying body oils after a shower or bath when I am still damp makes the best use of the oils, traps the moisture on my skin and the oils spread more easily too.
e p 2This rich body oil can be added to the Weleda body lotion of the same range or the hand cream and that will make both those just that bit richer.
This oil has been created to help increase firmness and elasticity, moisturise, regenerate and reactivate skin’s natural functions. I do find that my skin feels lovely and soft and looks healthy after using this and the smell is a real bonus.
When tested by humans this 70% of those in the test group agreed it provided intensive nourishment (self-assessment after 28 days) and 39% said it increased skin moisture when used for 28 days.
Natural Beauty from Myanmar
IMG_9941                                           NATURAL BEAUTY FROM MYANMAR
~~~~~~THANAKHA ~~~~~~

selection of natural products

While we were on holiday in Myanmar I noticed most of the women and and children as well as number of men had a yellow patch of something on their faces. I asked our local guide what it was. He explained that it was called Thanakha and was a make up which also worked as a sun protection and as a bonus smelled good too.

We saw this for sale as a piece of wood that needed to be ground which looked like hard work so I asked where I could buy it as a powder. He said that it was available in markets in some places but the wood that you ground yourself was better. I decided I would go for the powder regardless and was lucky enough to find some in pots in one of the hotels we stayed at and then again in a market so I have two lots.

Thanakha cools the skin, prevents sun damage, clears up acne and can even reduce fevers and headaches if swallowed. I haven’t tried that though. There is virtually no research to prove any of these claims but the Burmese people certainly all have beautiful skin and look really young for their age. One 2010 Thai study found that “extracts from thanaka bark showed strong anti-inflammatory, significant antioxidation, mild tyrosinase inhibition and slight antibacterial activities.”

IMG_9949Some women managed to produce the most amazing art with their thanakha while others just put a splodge of the stuff on each cheek which looked a bit random. Some applied it to their arms as well as sun protection and for the scent.

You can buy this on amazon and also there are some beauty products made using thanakha sold under the name shwe pwi nann which are apparently available through ebay.

Apparently thanakha powder mixed with kusumba oil which is also from Myanmar is effective in hair removal making the hair root become weak and loose its strength and then after a time the hair will fall off a bit like men going bald. For hair removal you need to make sure you get grade A thanakha as it is stronger while grades B and c are okay to use in cosmetics.IMG_9952

The kusumba oil can also be bought on ebay. The oil comes from the seeds of the kusumb tree grown in India, Pakistan and other countries in Asia like Myanmar. It is said that this oil Kusum oil is used in hairdressing and to promote hair growth i seems to counter the idea of using for hair removal ! The oil is also used for cooking and lighting as well as in traditional medicine for skin problems such as acne, itching, and burns and even as massage oil to relieve the pain of rheumatism.

~~~~~~KINBUN/KINPUN ~~~~
The kinpun I have looks and even smells a bit like ground coffee beans. The Kinpun is the tree grown in dry regions, and its botanical name is Acacia cocinna. First, dry hard and dark-brown Kinpun beans are boiled, cooled down and sieved and to make a shampoo from Myanmar dark hir this liquid is mixed with the liquid collected from soaking the tayaw bark. I cannot use tis shampoo as it is for dark hair an makes dark hair darker and shiny.IMG_9943
I have kinpun beans ground which I have use as a body scrub and I add this to my natural shower gels or soap. It is quite a gentle scrub as my kinpun is quite finely ground. If I had ground it myself I guess I could have left it coarser.
I mixed mine with my coconut oil too and a little shower gel and this made a lovely moisturising scrub which left my skin feeling clean and smooth and looking very well cared for. I usually make my on body scrub with ground coffee beans and coconut oil – with or without shower gel and so I just replaced the coffee with kinpun and it worked well.
~~~~~TAYAW ~~~~~

TheIMG_9939 Tayaw is a kind of small tree or shrub and its botanical name is Grewia Polygama. For the shampoo they use just the bark in small pieces. This is soaked in water for around 15 to 20 minutes then you mix it up with your fingers to get a slippery slightly frothy mix and this is then the shampoo you use for washing your hair.

The bark is beaten till flat and the flatter the bark the more foamy your shampoo mix becomes . If you have dark hair then you can add the kinpun but if like me your hair is light then they suggest adding some lime juice to lighten it , cure and prevent dandruff and any itchy scalp.

Personally as I can’t used the kinbun which is the soapier I found that using a good natural shampoo then the tayaw worked best for me and the Tayaw worked well as a natural hair conditioner making the hair soft and pliant and therefore easy to comb.

Although this shampoo is still widely made at home by many Burmese people these days you can also buy it ready made in plastic bags in the markets. There are also small modern packets of Tayaw-Kinbun shampoo made with modern machines by local manufacturers sold in bottles. I didn’t buy any as it was the one with kinbun so only god for dark hair.

Traditionally Burmese people consider hair washing to be auspicious and so on the Myanmar New Year Day, the young people pay their respects to the aged by washing their hair and cutting their nails.

I love finding out about natural beauty products traditionally used by other cultures and we have started to learn from these over recent years. If you think about argan oil, shea butter and tea tree to name just a few that are now used widely in beauty and toiletries world wide.
